WHAT
SERVICES DOES THE BOSS OFFER? As a competing service provider in the Chimanimani area, the BOSS seeks to offer what no other organisation in the area does: comprehensive, demand-driven business development services to members of the rural communities. Because the organisation is fully committed to the development of its members and customers, and because it is keen on designing its services in response to the needs and demands of its target market, the BOSS has developed five different, but complementary, service points in direct response to the requests of its future clientele. SERVICE POINT 1: SIMPLE
COMMUNICATIONS The
simple communications unit will offer members access to basic forms of
communication such as telephones, fax and photocopying machines, and typing and
word processing facilities in order to: promote
the concept of and provide access to information technology; impact, empower and
modernise the way rural communities conduct business; and assist in the overall
development and advancement of Chimanimani. SERVICE POINT 2: BUSINESS
DEVELOPMENT AND ADVISORY SERVICES The
business development and advisory team will offer workshops and trainings on
financial and non-financial topics such as financial planning and marketing
strategies. The objectives of this
unit are to design and deliver high-quality, demand-driven training programmes
and offer technical assistance in various business-related subjects in order to
strengthen and enhance
the intellectual capacity, technical knowledge and skills base of its customers. The unit will also be responsible for the establishment and
formation of a network of producer organisations affiliated to the CBT. SERVICE POINT 3: APPROPRIATE
TECHNOLOGY The
appropriate technology park will allow customers to rent or buy different forms
of appropriate technologies such as peanut butter and candle making machines and
oil presses. The objectives of this
unit are to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit; create income-generating
opportunities and employment possibilities; and enhance the quality of life
within the rural communities through giving them access to productive machinery. SERVICE POINT 4: INFORMATION AND
RESOURCES The
information and resource centre will disseminate and give members access to
important information on business and social issues such as HIV/AIDS and policy
research in order to build the
intellectual capacity of informal sector participants; create knowledge-based
communities; and promote both youth and adult education in the rural areas. SERVICE POINT 5: MICROFINANCE In
response to the demands, the goal is to create micro-lending facilities, which
will offer financial and non-financial services to the economically
disadvantaged in order to successfully develop, advance and sustain individual
and community-based enterprises. |
